JS adopts obituary motion on demise of Walton founding chairman

Staff Correspondent, from Parliament: Parliament on Sunday passed a resolution expressing deep shock at the death of SM Nazrul Islam, founding chairman of the country's leading electrical, electronics and home appliances manufacturing and marketing company Walton group.

Parliament passed the obituary motion in the 19th session of the 10th Parliament that began this afternoon with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

Parliament also adopted the obituary motion at the deaths of some other luminaries.

Other noted personalities who were mourned by the JS include former Deputy Speaker Akhter Hamid Siddiqui, former National Assembly Member Fazlur Rahman Bhuiyan, former lawmaker of Gaibandha- 1 Golam Mostafa, Jainul Abedin Sarker, lawmakers Quazi Nuruzzaman, Gazi Ataur Rahman, former Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation ABM Mahiuddin Chowdhury and Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Annisul Haq.

Obituary motion was also moved on the demise of Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammad Sayedul Haq.

Besides, obituary motion was also moved on Language veterans Muhammad Takijullah,Jainal Abedin, Advocate Dalil Uddin, Abul Latif, noted singer Bari Siddiqui, noted dancer Rahija Khanam Junu, Founder Chairman of Walton group Nazrul Islam.

The JS conveyed deep sympathy to the members of the bereaved families and prayed for the lasting peace of their departed souls.

SM Nazrul Islam breathed his last while undergoing treatment due to old age complications at the capital's Apollo Hospital around 9:40pm on December 17, 2017. He was 93.
