Man fined Tk 1 lakh over Rohingya girl's marriage

Staff Correspondent: The High Court (HC) has fined a man Tk 1 lakh over making his son married to a Rohginay girl who fled to Bangladesh from Myanmar.

The court also ordered to take legal action against the man if he fails to pay the amount to the concern department within 30 days.

The HC bench of Justice Mainul Islam Chowdhury and Justice JBM Hasan passed the order on Monday.

The court slapped the fine money over bringing out the girl from the Rohingya camp, making married her to his son, violating ban issued in this regard by the government and spoiling time of the court filing a writ petition.

It has been learnt that Shoaib Hossain Jewel, son of Babul Hossain of Charigram under Manikganj's Singair upazila, got married Rafiza, a Rohingya girl fled to Bangladesh from Myanmar. But the couple failed to register their marriage because of Law   Ministry's directives. Later, the bride's father Babul filed a writ petition with HC challenging the Law Ministry's directives.

Lawyer ABM Hamidul Misbah moved for the petition while Deputy Attorney General Motahar Hossain Sazu represented the state in the court.
