Sheikh Kamal’s birth anniversary today

DHAKA, Aug 5: The 64th birth anniversary of Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, will be observed today.

Born on August 5, 1949, at Tungipara in Gopalganj, Sheikh Kamal was the founder-president of the country’s leading sporting club Abahani Krira Chakra and founder-member of Dhaka Theatre.

Awami League and its associate bodies have drawn up elaborate programmes to celebrate his birth anniversary.

The programmes include placing wreaths at Sheikh Kamal’s portrait on the premises of Abahani Club at Dhanmondi at 9:00am and at his grave at Banani around 10:00 am.

In a statement on Sunday, LGRD Minister Syed Ashraful Islam urged all to observe the day.
