‘Anything worrisome in Digital Security Act to be omitted’

Secretariat Correspondent: Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said the government will consider omitting if anything worrisome and harassing is found in the proposed Digital Security Act.

The minister came up with the words of assurance in a meeting with leaders of Association of TV Channel Owners (ATCO) held at the Secretariat on Tuesday.

Inu urged the citizens of the country, media activists and ATCO authority to submit their written proposals if they find anything worrisome or problematic in the Act.

The Act has been approved in the cabinet and will be sent to parliamentary committee and later it will be finalized in the parliament, he said.

“Bangladesh is being digitalized day by day. This Digital Security Act has been formulated to ensure the safety of 16 crore people, for the safety of women and children and to ensure the sanctity of mass media”, added the minister.

ATCO President Salman F Rahman, Information Affairs Advisor of the Prime Minister Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, Ekattor Television CEO Mozammel Haque Babu and others were present at the meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, Salman F Rahman said, “Televisions in Bangladesh are working with the spirit of the Liberation War and will do in the future.”

ATCO believes that media activists will not be affected by the proposed Digital Security Act, said Mozammel Haque Babu, also the vice-president of ATCO.

Recently the Section 32 of the proposed Digital Security Act has created anxiety among the people of the country, specially among the media activists.

The implementation of this Act will affect investigative journalism, they said.
