Staff Correspondent: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the founding father of Bengali nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had struggled for his whole life to change the fate of deprived people. People of Bengal also used to obey every instruction of him.

The premier came up with the observation while speaking at a rally held at the capital’s Suhrawardy Udyan marking the historic March 7 on Wednesday afternoon.

She said, “The stage from where Bangabandhu gave his historic speech on March 7 was at the place of Children Park (Shishu Park). I was lucky that I was present on the stage.”

On this day in 1971, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman through his soulful address made a clarion call to the people to fight against the Pakistani occupation forces to achieve the long-cherished independence, she added.

Sheikh Hasina, also the president of ruling Awami League, called upon the country people to be remain alert and united so that the anti-liberation forces cannot come to power.

“I call upon you (people) to get united so that no war criminals and self-proclaimed killers cannot come to power ever,” premier said.

Awami League has organised the rally as a part of its pompous observation of the historic March 7. This year, the day is being observed with much more fanfare as the historic speech has been included in the Memory of the World International Register, a list of the world's important documentary heritage maintained by Unesco.
