Asaduzzaman Noor, Shykh Seraj to get Independence Award

Secretariat Correspondent: Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor and media celebrity Shykh Seraj, along with 16 other eminent personalities, are likely to get the Independence Award (Swadhinata Padak), the highest state award, for this year (2018).
The Cabinet Division issued a circular mentioning their names in this regard on Monday.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hand over the awards to them at a function at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the city on March 25.
Earlier on February 20, the government announced the names of 16 distinguished personalities for the awards in recognition of their outstanding contributions to their respective fields.
The recipients are late Kazi Zakir Hasan, martyred intellectual SMA Rashidul Hasan, late Shankar Gobinda Chowdhury, Bir Uttam Air Vice-marshal Sultan Mahmud, late M Abdur Rahim, late Bhupati Bhushan Chowdhury alias Manik Chowdhury, Shaheed Lt M Anwarul Azim, late Humayun Rashid Chowdhury, Shaheed Amanullah Mohammad Asaduzzaman, Shaheed Matiur Rahman Mallik, Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haque and Amzadul Haque (Independence and Liberation War), Dr AK MD Ahsan Ali (Medical Science), Prof AK Azad Khan (Social Service), Selina Hossain (Literature) and Dr Md Abdul Mazid (Food Security).
The award is traditionally presented on the eve of Independence Day in Bangladesh.
The Independence Day Award was introduced in 1977 and is bestowed upon Bangladeshi citizens or organisations in recognition of substantial contributions to several fields, including the War of Liberation, the language movement, education, literature, journalism, public service, science and technology, medical science, social science, music, games and sports, fine arts, rural development and other areas.
Each awardee receives a gold medal, a certificate of honour and a cash amount.
