Protesters block Shahbagh demanding job quota reform

Staff Correspondent: Blocking roads in front of the National Museum at Shahbagh in the capital, general students and job seekers have staged an agitation demanding reformation of quota system in govt jobs.

The agitation began around 1:00pm on Sunday.

They gathered at Dhaka University Central Library and marched towards Shahbagh intersection around 2:30pm.

During the agitation, the students chanted different slogans demanding immediate reformation in the existing quota system.

Calling their demand logical, the agitating students said they have been holding peaceful movement to press home their demand of reforming the discriminatory quota system for long time.

The reformation in the existing quota system must be brought in order to materialize the dreams which Bangabandhu envisioned about Bangladesh, they added.

The demonstrators have a five-point demand including reducing the proportion of quotas in government jobs,  recruitment of jobseekers to vacant posts on the basis of merit if eligible candidates are not found under quota, stopping of special recruitment tests for quota candidates, and ensuring of an unified age limit for all jobseekers.
