Police charge batons to evict quota demo from Shahbag

Staff Correspondent: Police charged batons and fired tear gas to evict protestors from Shahbagh who were demonstrating with demands of a reform to the existing quota system in civil service on Sunday night.
Law enforcers went on action around 8:00pm, five and a half hour after they blocked the intersection, and freed the road.
Cops also allegedly charged batons on several media persons during the action.
University students and job seekers took position on Shahbag, blocking the road and causing vehicle to a halt.
The protesters declared that they would continue their demonstration until their demands are met.
Police also took positions there from the very beginning of their sit-in at the intersection.
Maruf Hossain Sardar, deputy commissioner of DMP (Ramna zone), said, “They are agitating, no problem. But we requested them not to create public sufferings.”
