EC orders not to arrest without warrant

Staff Correspondent: Election Commission (EC) has ordered the administration not to arrest someone unless warrant issues by the court during Rajshahi, Sylhet and Barisal city corporation polls, said Election Commissioner Brig Gen (retd) Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury.

The commissioner came up with the disclosure while talking to reporters at Election Bhaban at the capital’s Agargaon on Sunday.

He said, “EC issued an order to the administration not arrest someone without warrant during Rajshahi, Sylhet and Barisal city corporation polls. We also issued same notice during Gazipur polls.”

“Candidates were asked to send agent lists to EC to stop harassment. We did this so that we can see whether anyone is arrested without warrant,” he added.

According to schedule announced by the EC, elections in the three city corporations are set to be held on July 30.
