Appellate Division upholds Khaleda's bail in Cumilla case

Staff Correspondent: The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Sunday upheld a High Court order that granted bail to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia for six months in a vandalism case filed in Chauddagram of Cumilla.

A four-member appellate bench led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order.

Lawyer Khandaker Mahbub Hossain moved for Khaleda Zia while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam moved for the state.

Earlier on August 9, the court fixed Sunday for passing an order on a petition filed by the government seeking a stay on the High Court order that granted bail to BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in an arson case filed in Cumilla under the Special Powers Act.

On August 6, The HC bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice SM Mujibur Rahman granted six months bail to Khaleda Zia. Later, the state appealed seeking stay on the bail order.
