Felani trial: Father, uncle return home after testifying

KURIGRAM, Aug 20: Nurul Islam, father of Bangladeshi girl Felani Khatun, alone with her uncle Hanif and two other officials have returned home on Tuesday afternoon after making their depositions before a special court constituted by Border Security Force (BSF) in Cooch Behar of India at the trial of the killing of the girl.

The two other officials were commanding officer of Border Guard Bangladesh Battalion-45 Lt Col Ziaul Haque Khaled and Kurigram public prosecutor Abraham Lincoln.

They returned home through Burimari land port in Lalmonirhat around 1pm.

Assisted by the BGB representative and the Bangladeshi lawyer, Nurul and Hanif on Monday testified before the General Security Force Court.

They were supposed to make their deposition also on Tuesday. However, when they appeared before the court, they were told that their further depositions were not required.

Earlier, on Sunday, the Bangladeshi team went to India to make their depositions at the trial.

Felani, a 15-year-old girl, was shot dead by the BSF men while she was entering Bangladesh over the barbed-wire fences along Anantapur border point in the district on January 7, 2011.

Over two and half years into the incident, the trial of the murder of Bangladeshi girl Felani began on August 13 at the BSF special court in Cooch Behar.
