Drug peddler killed in Ctg ‘gunfight’

Staff Correspondent, Chattrogram:  A listed drug trader was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with RAB members in Muradpur Railgate area under Panchlaish Thana of the port city on Thursday midnight.

The incident took place around 12.30am.

The deceased was identified as Asim Roy Prokash Babu.

At least 4 RAB members including deputy commander were injured in the gunfight.

According to RAB sources, a team led by RAB-7 Commander Lt Col Mifta Uddin Ahmed conducted a drive to arrest Asim Roy.  Sensing the presence of law enforcers, drug traders opened fire forcing RAB members to back fire that triggered a gunfight. One of the suspects died on the spot while another fled.

The RAB said Asim was a drug trader and had three cases against him on drug offence charges at Kotwali Police Station.

The injured RAB officials are Squadron Leader Safayet Jamil Fahim, Maj Mehedi Hasan, Lance Corporal ‘Shaheed’ and soldier ‘Arif’. They were admitted to the Combined Military Hospital at Chattogram Cantonment.
