Gas crisis hits Chattogram

Staff Correspondent, Chattogram: A gas crisis has hit Chattogram city following a technical fault at a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal at Maheshkhali in Cox’s Bazar.

Petrobangla sources said that the LNG supply is halted due to the problem in supply pipeline under the sea. It would take one week to normalize the supply, said the authority.

Anupam Dutta, Customer and Maintenance Division Engineer of Chattogram Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Limited told risingbd.com that the gas crisis has been created in various areas of Chattogram following LNG supply fault. Regular gas supply in gas-based power plant was stopped to face the situation.

The official said, Chattogram’s Karnaphuli gas supply station got 300 million cubic feet per day from Maheshkhali LNG terminal. Now, the users are getting gas supply from national grid directly.

The residential dwellers are facing serious trouble due to the acute shortage of natural gas supply.
