EC orders not to cancel nomination papers for light errors

Staff Correspondent: The Election Commission (EC) has asked the returning officers not to cancel nomination papers of the 11th general election for light errors.

The EC issued a circulation in this regard on Saturday.

According to the circulation, if any silly error, which is amendable immediately, can be found during scrutinising the nomination papers, it should be corrected by the candidates.

“No nomination paper would be cancelled for any light error. No legal nomination paper of a candidate will be cancelled, if any of his previous nomination paper is found rejected. Rather, the nomination paper will be considered legal if any of his previous nomination is found accepted,” it said.

“If more than once nomination paper is found for a candidate, one of those will be scrutinised, not of all,” the circulation read.

“The returning officer must write of his decision on the selected place, if he/she cancel or accept the nomination paper,” it added.
