2 killed in Teknaf 'gunfight'

Cox’s Bazar Correspondent: Two suspected drug traders were killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Damdamia area of Teknaf upazila early Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as Hafizur Rahman, 35, son of Abdul Matin, Sabbir Hossain, 25, son of Md Ibrahim.

RAB-7 Cox’s Bazar Company Commander Major Mehedi Hasan said acting on secret information, RAB personnel set up a check-post on Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf highway. Meanwhile, sensing the presence of the law enforcers, a gang of drug peddlers opened fire to RAB men, prompting them to fire back that triggered a gun battle.

Later, two bullet injured people were recovered from the spot. The injured were sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital where duty doctors declared them dead.

Some 40,000 pieces of Yaba pills, a foreign made revolver and an one-shooter gun were recovered from the spot.
