Language hero Syed Abdul Hannan no more

Staff Correspondent: Syed Abul Hannan, a 1952 Language Movement veteran and a Freedom Fighter, is no more.

He died from old age complications at a private hospital in the capital early Tuesday. He was 87.

He left behind his wife, two sons, three daughters and hosts of relatives to mourn his death.

The language hero will be buried at his family graveyard in Modyosheri area of Sherpur district town.

Locally known as ‘Hannan Sir’, the language hero was born on December 25, 1932.

He got involved with the Language Movement in 1952 when he was studying honours 1st year in Dhaka University. Hannan and his brother Syed Abus Sattar were arrested from a procession being carried out demanding ‘Bangla Basha’.
He was also an organiser of the Liberation War in 1971.
