Chawkbazar Fire: UN Secretary-General expressed condolences

Diplomatic Correspondent: Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of United Nations, has expressed condolences for the loss of life and destruction caused by the devastating fire in the Chawkbazar area on February 20.

In a letter addressed to President Md Abdul Hamid which was sent on Friday through the ambassador and Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations, Masud Bin Momen, Guteress assured full support at this critical time.

"I wish to assure you that the United Nations stands in solidarity and support at this critical time," Guteress wrote in the letter.

The UN secretary general also wished speedy recovery of the injured.

He commended the efforts undertaken by the national emergency services in responding to the fire and assisting those in need in his letter.
