UP Chairman held with firearms at Dhaka airport

Senior Correspondent: A union parishad chairman was held with firearms at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Monday afternoon.

The detainee was known as Mehedi Masud Hossain, chairman of Phulsar Union Parishad under Chougachha upazia in Jashore. He is also general secretary of the upazila Awami League.

Security members of Civil Aviation held him from the airport’s internal terminal while he was about to fly for Jashore.

Nur-e-Azam Mia, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of airport police station, confirmed the news.

According to the airport sources, he was going to Jashore by a Novoair flight without informing the authority over his firearms. The firearms were found at the first search at the internal gate. Later, he was detained.

Taking legal actions against Mehedi Masud was under process while the report was filed, according to air vice marshal Nayeem Hassan.
