PM intervention sought to recover Waqf property

Staff Correspondent: Claiming himself as a real successor, a man has sought the Prime Minister’s intervention to recover property of Hazi Abdul Karim Talukder Waqf in Bhola sadar upazila.

Shamim Ahmed, son of late Nasir Ahmed at Jamiralata Miabari of Bhola sadar upazila, said this at a press conference held at a city restaurant on Friday.

Shamim Ahmed claimed Hazi Abdul Karim Talukder Waqf started its journey with 284 acres of land in 1922. His grandfather Golam Kadir Mia, who was the mutawalli (administrator) of the Waqf estate, was shot dead by miscreants in 1940. During his mutawalli period, it became one of the largest Waqf estates in the country but it is reality that only 4.45 acre is in its possession now.

He alleged the land and property of the estate have been occupied by the local political and socially influential persons with the help of staff of Bangladesh Waqf Administration.

He alleged, "Despite lodging several complaints to the Religious Affairs Ministry, Prime Minister's office and Waqf administrator's office, no solutions have been given”.

He said “According to the records of the Waqf estate, I (Shamim Ahmed) and my father Nasir Ahmed are the real successors but we are deprived of all kind of facilities due to corruption of staff of Bangladesh Waqf Administration”.

After his grandfather’s death in 1940, Altaj Rahman Talukder became mutawalli of the Waqf estate. It was unfortunate that Altaj Rahman Talukder illegally transferred lion’s share of the property to his wife Masuma Khatun, elder son Mosharrof Hossain Shajahan, brother Azhar Uddin Mia and brothers-in-law, he pointed out.

In 1965, Advocate Nurur Reza became receiver of the Waqf estate but Altaj Rahman Talukder continued to enjoy facilities of the Waqf estate. During that time many properties were transferred illegally to Mofazzal Hossain and Samsuddin Ahmed, staff of A Rahman & Sons, a business organization.

In 2001, State Minister for Religious Affairs Mosharrof Hossain Shajahan illegally became mutawalli of the Waqf estate and continued it till May 5, 2012. During this time he did not submit any financial statement and illegally handed over a portion of the property to his brothers Golam Nabi Alamgir and Golam Kibria Jahangir, Shamim Ahmed mentioned.

The state minister also appointed some officials and staff who are helping to occupy the property on fake documents.

Shamim Ahmed alleged dishonest officials and staff of Bangladesh Waqf Administration declared him illegal being mutawalli and vanished his all applications and documents in bid to help him opponents in occupying the property.
