Staff Correspondent: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken all responsibilities for the treatment of the female student of a Feni madrasa who was burnt allegedly after refusing to lift sexual abuse charges against the principal of the madrasa.
Dr Samanta Lal Sen, chief coordinator of National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), came up with the information while talking to newsmen at the hospital on Sunday.
“I went to meet the Prime Minister at her office around 1:00 pm. First of all, she enquired about the female madrasa student who was set afire allegedly by fellow students in Sonagazi Upazila on Saturday. Hearing the details, she became very appalled and expressed concern. She has taken all responsibilities for the treatment of the female student,” Dr Samanta told the newamen.
Besides, the Prime Minister has instructed to immediately arrest those involved in this connection, he said.
An eight-member medical board has been formed to monitor the treatment of the burnt female student.
The victim, a resident of Sonagazi Municipality, went to the local Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa on Saturday to sit for Alim exams, equivalent to Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC).
Some students called her to the roof and threatened her to withdraw the case. They set fire to her after pouring kerosene on her when she refused to withdraw the case.
Police and others rescued her after hearing her cry and took her to Sonagazi Upazila Health complex from where she was shifted to the Feni General Hospital before transferring to the DMCH.
