HC writ seeks ban on 52 adulterated foods

Staff Correspondent: A petition in the High Court has sought to ban 52 adulterated foods as those food items were found substandard after being tested in scientific labs.
The hearing over the writ petition would be held at the High Court bench of Justice Sheikh Hasan Arif and Rajik Al Jalil today (Thursday).
Among the top companies whose products have been found substandard are - Pran, Danish, Well Food, Duncan, ACI Pure, Molla Salt Industries, City Oil Mill, Bangladesh Edible Oil Ltd and Kashem Food Products Ltd.
Barrister Shihab Uddin Khan filed the writ petition on behalf of conscious consumer society.
Earlier, the surveillance team of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) collected 406 samples of 27 types of popular food products in the last two months. These samples were tested in the BSTI lab. Later, BSTI published the report in a press conference on May 2.
