Leaseholders brief over beef prices

Staff Correspondent: Leaseholders and traders rejected allegation price hike due to extortion collected in the capital’s Gabtoli cattle market.

Leaseholders arranged a press conference in this regard at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) on Sunday noon.

On behalf of lessees, trader Sanoar Hossain and Abul Hashem arranged the press conference.

Sanoar Hossain said, “Beef price did not go up due to extortion in Gabtoli. If so, why beef prices hiked across the country? Besides, City corporation reserves right to take actions against extortion, if it happens.”

He said, “We are protesting speech of mayor. No extortion is collected in Gabtoli cattle market. We collect charges fixed by city corporation. If any anomaly found beyond this, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) can take steps through mobile court.”

“We charge Tk 35 for a goat, Tk 100 for a cattle and Tk 150 for a buffalo at Gabtoli market which is fixed by DNCC,” he added.
