Staff Correspondent: Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Iqbal Mahmood said that small fishes are involved in corruption in most cases. As a result, about 80 percent of country’s population are affected in somehow due to corruption.

The ACC chief said this while speaking in a seminar titled “Role of Lawyers and Judiciary to prevent Corruption” at National Press Club in the capital on Saturday.

Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB) organised the seminar.

Iqbal Mahmood said, “Country’s common people who live villages are mostly affected by harassment and irregularities. In these cases, mostly small fishes are involved in corruption. As a result, about 80 percent of country’s population are affected in somehow due to corruption.  The small fishes are being brought under law for their welfare and the process will continue. I can firmly say that not only small fishes, big fishes are being brought under law and it will be continued. ACC is engaged in investigating, probing or prosecuting against many of the influential political leaders, wealthy individuals or top bureaucrats.”

He said, “We suffer from a problem that we do not believe what we say. We are captive in this strange way. To break the captivity, youths specially students from VI to X have to be educated with moral values and help to grow them with developed mentality to create a new generation.”
