Senior Correspondent: The government has suspended Deputy Inspector General (prison) of Sylhet division Partha Gopal Banik on charges of corruption, bribery and other irregularities.
The Security Services Division under the home ministry announced the action in a circular on Thursday after the Anti-Corruption Commission informed the government of the progress of a case against the official.
Earlier on Monday, a Dhaka court sent DIG Partha Gopal Banik to jail rejecting his bail petition in a graft case. He has been now kept at Keraniganj central jail.
ACC Assistant Director Salauddin Ahmed filed the case against DIG Partha with the commission’s integrated office in Dhaka on charges of possessing money from unknown source of income and money laundering.
The Anti-graft body detained the DIG after recovering Tk 80 lakh from his Dhanmondi residence in Dhaka. Partha Gopal has obtained the money through corruption.
The charges against Partha include obtaining money through bribery, corruption and irregularities, and hiding wealth information.
