Two Japanese nationals held with 12 kg gold

Staff Correspondent: Customs officials have arrested two Japanese nationals in possession of 12kg of gold at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Customs officials detained them from a Malaysia flight after it landed at the airport early Thursday.

The arrestees are Takeo Mimura and Shuichi Satol.

Directorate General of Customs Detection and Investigation Department (DG) Dr Shahidul Islam confirmed this.

He said: “On a tip-off a customs team followed them from the boarding bridge. After crossing the green channel, they denied carrying any products with duty-tax applicable on them, when asked. Then their bodies were searched and 30 gold bars were found.

The market price of the seized gold is approximately Tk six crore, he added.

A case has been filed with Airport Police Station against the two Japanese nationals.
