50km long tailback on Dhaka-Tangail highway

Staff Correspondent, Tangail: A 50km-long tailback has been created on the Dhaka-Tangail highway, causing immense suffering to thousands of Eid holidaymakers.
The tailback stretched from Bangabandhu bridge area to Mirzapur’s Gorai, resulting many home-goers to stick in the traffic since Saturday morning. The traffic jam continued till filling the report 2:00pm.
Tangail police super Sanjit Kumar Roy said, “We were informed that no heavy vehicle will ply highway for 3 days before and after Eid. But, such kind of vehicles are moving now. These transports got stuck on highway. On the other hand, the vehicles on Sirajganj’s Nakla Bridge, Hatikumru and Kodda intersection move slowly. As a result, the toll plaza of Bangabandhu toll booths were closed for sometimes.”
Over seven hundreds of policemen are working to ensure security of people and trying to reduce the traffic jam in the areas.
Deputy Commissioner Md Shahidul Islam said, huge traffic jam is seen every year on Dhaka-Tangail highway. Comparably more people are heading toward home this time. Around 30/35 thousands of vehicles are using this highway per day now.
