Rawhides sold at low prices!

Senior Correspondent: Seasonal rawhide traders were seen buying rawhides from every nook and corner of the capital in last year. Even, clashes were took place centering rawhide collection. But, the picture is totally different this year.

People are seen waiting to sell their rawhides after sacrificing animals but there is no collectors in many places.

During the first day of Eid, our correspondents talked to traders and wholesalers in different areas of Dhaka. A medium sized rawhide of a cow was sold between Tk 600 and Tk 800 this Eid but the same was sold at double during last year's Eid. Besides, an average type rawhide was sold at Tk300 to Tk500.

Mr. Nabin, a dweller of Mirpur-1, said, “I bought a cow paying Tk80,000 and I had to sell the rawhide at Tk 600 only.”

Chairman of Bangladesh Hide and Skin Merchants Association Delwar Hossain told risingbd that the prices of rawhide has fell in international market already. Ultimately, the impact is seen here. On the other hand, the traders are interested to buy salt-treated rawhide. Moreover, there is a crisis of capital to buy rawhide.”

Earlier, the government fixed the rawhide in a meeting with tanners and traders at the commerce ministry. Per square feet of cowhide was fixed at Tk45-Tk50 in Dhaka city. The rates outside Dhaka are Tk35-Tk40.
