Tajia procession brought out amid tight security

Senior Correspondent: Members of the Shia community brought out Tajia processions in Dhaka today amid tight security, marking the holy Ashura.
The traditional procession was brought out at 10:00am from Imambara Hussaini Dalan in Old Dhaka which will end at 2:00 pm in Jhigatola area.
Earlier in the morning, hundreds of members of the Shia community gathered at the Imambara Hussaini Dalan to take part in the processions.
The Shia community has been observing the Tajia procession for 400 years, according to the Hussaini Dalan authority.
Krishna Podo Ray, additional commissioner (crime) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), said, “People are given permission to join the Tajia procession after searching them for the sake of security on the occasion of holy Ashura. Foolproof security measures have been taken over Tajia procession in Imambara and its adjacent areas.”
Holy Ashura, commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), is being observed in the country today with due religious fervour and solemnity.
On this day in the Hijri year of 61, Hazrat Imam (RA), grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SM), along with his family members and 72 followers had embraced martyrdom in the hands of Yazid's soldiers at the desert of Karbala to uphold the teachings of Prophet (SM).
The day is a public holiday.
