‘Gambling to remain closed, but no raid at clubs’

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) did not stay the High Court order that declared illegal the gambling including 13 posh clubs across the country.

The SC order indicates that gambling will remain closed but law enforcement agencies cannot raid the clubs until the appeal is disposed of.

An Appellate Division bench, led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, passed the order on Thursday following an appeal filed by the clubs.

Barrister M. Amir-ul Islam, Barrister Tania Amir and Barrister Sumaiya Aziz moved for the clubs during the hearing on the appeal.

Earlier on February 10, the HC bench of Justice Sheikh Hasan Arif and Justice Md Mahmud Hasan Talukder passed an order declaring illegal the gambling for exchange of money. Later, the clubs filed an appeal against the HC order.
