Probe body formed over Rupnagar Slum fire

A four-member probe body has been formed to uncover the reason behind the massive fire which broke out at Rupnagar Slum in the city’s Mirpur area on Wednesday morning.

The committee was asked to submit report within 15 days.

The Fire Service and Civil Defence Deputy Director in Dhaka Debashis Bardhan confirmed the news.

He said the four-member probe body was asked to unearth the reason behind the fire. They will prepare report after visiting the spot in bodies and talking to witnesses and victims. They were also asked to submit report within 15 days.

He, however, said it had yet not been decided who would lead the committee.

The massive fire broke out at Rupnagar Slum at around 9:45am on Wednesday which was brought under control in three hours. Till then, nearly 1,5000 shanties were gutted in the devastating fire.
