Garment workers stage demos demanding wages

Workers of several garment factories took to the streets in Savar, Uttara and Tongi areas on Monday demanding their due salaries.
On Monday morning, workers of a factory gathered in Uttara Taltala area and blocked the road demanding their due salaries.
Officer-in-Charge of Uttar Khan Thana Helaluddin said several hundred workers gathered there and demonstrated for their salaries. Police also tried to bring the situation under control.
In Tongi, the protesters came out of their homes for the protest, risking infection of coronavirus.
Workers of Alauddin & Sons Private Ltd took to the streets around 9.00am and demonstrated for their salaries.
Gazipur Industrial Police Inspector Md Razzakul Hayder said the workers stopped their demonstration after 3.00pm when garment authorities assured them of giving salaries within April 16.
In Savar, workers of four garment factories including three of the same owner, took to the streets for the second consecutive day today demanding due salaries.
Hundreds of workers blocked the Hemayetpur-Singair road in front of three factories as part of their protest.
The three factories have been closed without paying salaries of several months to their staff and workers, the agitators claimed.
