Bangladesh tops China in COVID-19 infections

Bangladesh's coronavirus (COVID-19) cases have surpassed China’s cases.
2,856 more new COVID-19 patients were detected in Bangladesh in 24 hours ending at 8:00am on Saturday, reaching the number of the identified COVID-19 patients in the country to 84,379.
So far 83,075 people have been infected in China where the novel coronavirus emerged in late December, 2019 and experts then knew little about the microbe and initially failed to contain the spread of the infection.
Bangladesh confirmed its first three COVID-19 infections on March 8, over two months later than China.
In total, China has reported 4,634 deaths among 83,075 cases since the virus was first detected late last year in the central city of Wuhan.
In Bangladesh, 44 more people died of coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours, taking the number of deaths to 1139 in the country.
Besides, 2,856 more people tested positive for Covid-19 over the same period, raising the total number of confirmed cases to 84,379.
.Prof DrNasima Sultana, additional director general of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), disclosed the latest figures of deaths and infections in the daily online bulletin of DGHS on coronavirus situation in Dhaka on Saturday (June 113).
According to DGHS, a total of 17,827 individuals have recovered from the disease so far since Bangladesh recorded its first Covid-19 case on March 8.
“We've carried out tests on 16,638 samples collected from across the country and 2,856 more patients have been diagnosed with coronavirus infection. The total number of infections has risen to 84,379” she said.
