Language movement veteran Sayeed Haider dies

Language movement veteran Dr Sayeed Haider has passed away.

He breathed his last at Crescent Hospital in the capital’s Uttara on Wednesday afternoon. He was 95.

Dr Sayeed Haider had infected with coronavirus in June. He, however, made recovery from the deadly virus. Later, he had an attack of Pneumonia. Since, he had been undergoing treatment at the Crescent Hospital where he died.

He will be buried at the graveyard of Uttara sector no 4 on Wednesday night after Namaz-e-Janaza.

Dr Sayeed Haider was born in Pabna in 1925. He passed IA from Kolkata Presidency College. Later, he took admission to Koltaka Medial College. But due to the division of the country, he completed his medical study at Dhaka Medical College.

Dr Sayeed Haider was a hero of the Language Movement occurred in 1952. He was the vice-president of the Ekushey Chetona Parishad and one of the associate designers of the first Shaheed Minar. In 2016, Bangladesh government awarded him the Ekushey Padak for his contribution to the language movement.
