5 eminent women get Begum Rokeya Padak

Five prominent female personalities have received the prestigious Begum Rokeya Padak- 2020, for their outstanding contributions towards the society and women’s empowerment.

The recipients are- Prof. Dr. Shirin Akhter, Col. Dr. Nazma Begum, SPP, MPH, Monjulika Chakma, Freedom Fighter Begum Mushtari Shafi and Farida Akhter.

The Women and Children Affairs Ministry organized a function at Bangladesh Shishu Academy auditorium on the occasion of ‘Begum Rokeya Day’ to distribute Rokeya Padak (Award) -2020.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina attended the program virtually from her official residence Ganobhaban as the chief guest with State minister for Women and Children Affairs Fazilatunnesa Indira in the chair.

The nation celebrates Rokeya Dibosh on December 9 every year, marking the birth anniversary of Begum Rokeya, a Bengali feminist thinker, writer, educationist, and social activist, widely regarded as the pioneer of women’s education in the Indian subcontinent during the British rule.
