Sheikh Russel 50th birth anniversary being observed today

Staff Correspondent, DHAKA, Oct 18: Today, Friday, is the 50th birth anniversary of Sheikh Russel, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Russel was born on October 18 in 1964. The ten-year old Sheikh Russel was killed brutally along with Bangabandhu by a section of derailed army officers on the black night of August 15, 1975.

Russel, also brother of Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina, was a student of class IV at University Laboratory School. Bangladesh Awami League and other socio- cultural organisations have arranged various programmes to observe the birth anniversary of Russel.

The programmes included offering of Fateha and special munajat, placing of wreaths at the grave of Resell and organizing discussions, painting competitions and cultural programmes.

Different political, social, cultural, student and professional organizations paid their rich tribute by placing floral wreaths at the graves of all martyrs of august 15, including Sheikh Resell at Banani.
