Syed Abul Maksud no more

Prominent columnist, researcher, journalist and writer Syed Abul Maksud has passed away.

He breathed his last at the capital’s Square Hospital on Tuesday (February 23) evening. He was 74.

His son Syed Nasif Maksud confirmed the news.

He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

Syed Abul Maksud was born on 23 October 1946 in the village of Elachipur in Shibalaya upazila of Manikganj. His father was Syed Abul Mahmud and mother Saleha Begum.

Syed Abul Maksud’s career began in 1964 with journalism in the weekly Nabajug edited by M Anisuzzaman. He joined Bangladesh Barta Sangstha in 1971. On March 2, 2008, he resigned from the editorial department of the news agency.

He was awarded the Bangla Academy Award in 1995 for his contribution to Bengali literature.
