Mufti Amir Hamza arrested

Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have arrested Mufti Amir Hamza.

He was arrested from Kushtia on Monday (May 24) noon.

CTTC Chief additional commissioner Md Asaduzzaman confirmed the matter.

Details in this regard will be revealed later, he said.

It was learned that Mufti Amir Hamza has spread misleading information in the name of Islam in his speech. Several of his sermons published on YouTube are spreading extremism. Listening the speeches, soft-hearted teenagers are being attracted to militancy. Amir Hamza was in hiding due to the recent arrest of Hefazat leaders and activists.

Police said he would be produced before a court and remand would be sought for him on Tuesday (May 25).
