Govt again appoints Chinese company to operate Bangabandhu Bridge

The government has appointed China Communications Construction Company Ltd again to operate and maintain Bangabandhu Bridge.

The Chinese company has been appointed at a cost of Tk 172.61 crore for the operation and maintenance of the bridge for the next 5 years.

According to Bangladesh Bridge Authority, since the construction of Bangabandhu Bridge, an operator has been appointed every five years for its operation and maintenance. Notable among the works carried out by the engaged operators are- Maintenance of main bridge and bridge connecting roads, monitoring and emergency maintenance of river management works, traffic and safety management of the bridge area.

The current operator, the term of China Communications Construction Company Limited (CCCCL), will expire on September 30 this year. For the next five years, with the aim of appointing Operation and Maintenance Operator as per PPR 2008, tender was called up with a single stage envelops titled ‘Engaging Operator for Operation and Maintenance of Bangabandhu Bridge and Associated Works for Five Years’.
