Army officer, 3 criminals killed in terrorist attack in Bandarban: ISPR

An army officer and three members of a terrorist group were killed during an exchange of fire in Ruma Zone of Bandarban last night.

The deceased army personnel is Habibur Rahman, a senior warrant officer of the army.

Rashedul Alam Khan, assistant director of the Inter Services Public Relation (ISPR) Directorate, confirmed the news in a press release issued on Thursday (February 3).

According to the ISPR press release, the incident occurred at around 10:30pm on Wednesday (February 02) in the district’s remote Ruma area. Habibur Rahman, a senior warrant officer of the army, died following a shootout with armed members of Parbatya Chattogram Jana Sanghati Samiti (PCJSS- Santu Larma).

“Meanwhile, another army member, one Firoz Alam, was also shot on his leg. He is currently undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Chattogram,” it said.

Acting on a tip-off, a patrol team led by Senior Warrant Officer Habibur Rahman conducted a drive at the Bothi Para area under Ruma upazila yesterday night, according to the release.

Sensing danger, a group of PCJSS- Santu Larma men opened fire on the army officials. In self-defence, the army officials fired back, killing one army officer and three criminals on the spot. 

Meanwhile, the other criminals managed to flee, reads the ISPR release.

During the drive, the army patrol team seized one SMG, 249 bullets, three magazines, three single barrel guns, four uniforms, and Tk52,900 in cash (extortion money) from the scene, the release added.
