Train fare may increase: Railway Minister

Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan said that the train fare may be increased again due to fuel price hike. However, no decision has been taken in this regard yet.

The minister said this while addressing reporters at Rail Bhaban on Sunday (August 7).

He said, there is a huge difference between bus and train fare that will create pressure on railway. So, we have to readjust train fare.

Bangladesh Railway is a state organization. We have to take directions from the Prime Minister if we want to increase the fare, he added.

Earlier, the government on Friday announced that it had raised all fuel oil prices.

As per the new prices, a litre of octane now costs Tk 135, which is 51.7 percent higher than the previous rate of Tk 89. Similarly, each litre of petrol now costs Tk 130, a rise of Tk 44 or 51.1 percent.
