Tajia procession brought out in city

Shia community people brought out a Tajia procession in the city on Tuesday, marking the Holy Ashura.

The Tajia procession started from Imambara Husaini Dalan in Old Dhaka after 10.00am which went round Chawkbazar, Lalbagh, Ajimpur, New Market, Zigatola bus stand and Dhanmondi area.

Adequate security measures were around Imambara Husaini Dalan and during the procession to ensure smooth observance of Ashura.

Holy Ashura, commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), is being observed in the country today (Tuesday) with due religious fervour and solemnity.

On this day in the Hijri year of 61, Hazrat Imam, the grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), along with his family members and 72 followers embraced the martyrdom in the hands of Yazid’s soldiers at the desert of Karbala to uphold the teachings of the Prophet (SM).

The day is a public holiday.

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have issued separate messages on the occasion.
