EC finalizes to procure two lakh EVMs

The Election Commission (EC) will buy two lakh Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) for the next national election, spending Tk 8711 crore.
The election commission took the final decision at a meeting held at the Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital’s Agargaon area on Monday.
Election Commissioner Md Alamgir confirmed the news.
The EC has finalized a project to buy two lakh new EVMs costing Tk 8,711 crore which will be used in the 12th parliamentary election. The proposal will be sent to Planning Commission, and later they will present it at the ECNEC meeting for final approval, he said.
Md Alamgir said voting will be possible for only 70 seats by using existing EVMs. If we want to conduct polls in at least 150 constituencies using EVMs we need to purchase more 2 lakh EVMs.
