Shuvro murder: 7 get death

A tribunal in Dhaka has sentenced seven people to death and three others to life term imprisonment in a case filed over murder of Mymensingh Swechchhasebak League leader Masudur Rahman Shuvro.

Judge Md Monir Kamal of Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-3 announced the verdict in the case on Monday (October 10).

The death row convicts are Riyaduzzaman Riyad, chairman of Moilakanda union under Gauripur upazila of the district, Joint General Secretary of Gauripur Municipal Chhatra Dal Shakib Ahmed Reza, Khairul Islam, Mozammel Haque, Mainuddin, Shariful Islam and Ruhul Amin.

Shuvro, the general secretary of Gauripur upazila unit of Swechchhasebak League, was hacked to death on October 17 in 2020.

The deceased’s younger brother Abidur Rahman Pranto filed a murder case with Gauripur police station following the murder. Police later submitted charge sheet accusing 19 people.
