‘Govt not responsible if no one joins election’

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam said, the government cannot take responsibility if any political party does not join the upcoming national elections.

The minister said this while addressing a press conference on Thursday (October 13).

He said, US Deputy Secretary Wendy Sherman reiterated the importance of upholding human rights and free and peaceful national elections in Bangladesh. We informed him that the election will be fair. But we cannot take responsibility if any political party does not take part in the polls.

Meanwhile, criticizing the speech of BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s remark, he opined that Fakhrul should further improve US relations regarding the issue of BNP’s Acting Chairman Tariq Rahman.
