‘2648 vehicles sued, fine of Tk 71.5 lakh collected’

The mobile court conducted raids against unfit vehicles and issued 2,648 cases in 2022. Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) collected a fine of Tk 71,52,590 in those cases.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader told this to the National Parliament on Sunday (January 29) in reply to a written question by Member of Parliament AKM Rahmatullah.

He said BRTA conducts regular mobile courts against expired and unfit or illegal vehicles. From January to December 2022, BRTA collected a fine of Tk 71,52,590 in 2,648 cases against expired and unfit vehicles by conducting mobile court. Apart from this, nine vehicles have been sent to the dumping station.

In response to another question of lawmaker Benazir Ahmad, the Minister said BRTA’s regular mobile court operation against expired and unfit vehicles is continuing. Apart from this, District Magistrate and Highway Police are performing proper duties in the district and highway as well. At present the number of BRTC buses in the country is 1,350.
