General election to be held in December

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal has said that the 12th national election will be held in December this year. All preparations are being made for this.
He said this in a press conference at Nirbachan Bhaban of the capital’s Agargaon on Wednesday (February 1).
Over the by-election of six constituencies, the CEC said that despite some irregularities, overall the voting was fair and peaceful. The turnout in the by-elections was relatively low. Some 15 to 25 percent of votes was cast.
He said counting of votes through machines has started in many places. It is expected that after 2 to 4 hours the polling results will be announced from the Returning Officer’s offices.
Earlier, voting in six constituencies— Thakurgaon-3, Bogura-4 and 6, Chapainawabganj-2, 3 and Brahmanbaria-2, was held on Wednesday (February 1). The voting started at 8:30 am and ended 4:30 pm.11.
