11 years of Sagar-Runi murder: still no end to probe

Eleven years have passed since the murder of Maasranga TV news editor Sagar Sarwar and ATN Bangla senior reporter Meherun Runi but the investigation is yet to unravel the mystery behind the murder.

Although, home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said that RAB was directed to provide Sagar Sarwar and Meherun Runi murder case probe report soon.

On the other hand, the family members of the victim expressed frustration due to the lengthy investigation of the case.

On Thursday (February 9), Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) leaders submitted a memorandum to the minister demanding speedy trial in the journalist couple murder case.

Meanwhile, he said, “The DRU submitted a memorandum to me demanding for Sagar-Runi. We can’t ensure trial but can submit the investigation report, we have been trying as many years have elapsed.”

Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, Additional police super Khandakar Md Shafiqul Alam said the investigation is underway. It’s a much-talked case. That’s why it is taking more time.

Earlier, the couple were killed in the early hours of February 11, 2012, in their rented flat in the capital's West Razabazar.
