A Dhaka court has placed Saiful Alam Nirob, former president of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, also member of the Central Executive Committee of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), on a three-day remand in a case filed over assaulting policemen and preventing them from discharging their duties.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mosharraf Hossain passed the order after Md Mahbubur Rahman, sub-inspector of Tejgaon Industrial Police Station and also the case’s investigation officer, produced him before it with a five-day remand prayer.
In the remand prayer, the IO said Nirob and his supporters carried out the attack on police with brickbats and also threw crude bombs in front of Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) during the party's road march yesterday. The attack injured several policemen. So, he needs to be remanded to find out vital clues about the incident, the IO added.
Nirob was picked up on Saturday (February 4) afternoon in the city’s BFDC area.
