Manpower crunch in DNCRP, 83,000 complaints settled in 12 yrs

Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) is unable to settle many complaints as the national consumer rights body is facing a manpower crunch.

According to DNCRP data, it received a total of 1,67,530 complaints in last 12 years.  Among these complaints, 83,798 cases were settled.

Some complaints remain unsettled every year as it is facing a manpower crunch. The number of complaints is increasing every year but this is a positive sign as it means that consumer awareness has improved, sources said.

DNCRP fined 8328 organizations and realized Tk 5,85,08,808 in 12 years.

According to sources there are 216 officers and employees against 450 manpower in DNCRP. A hotline ‘16121’ was launched in 2021. In three years 2021, 2022 and 2023, 1 lakh 69 thousand 530 complaints were received on the hotline.

DG of DNCRP AHM Safikuzzaman said 64 district offices of 8 divisions across the country are going on with an assistant director and computer operator each. Due to manpower crisis, we are not able to conduct raid in many upazilas. A proposal has been sent to the ministry to increase the manpower.
