Maj Gen Fakhrul appointed as MINURSO’s Force Commander

Major General Fakhrul Ahsan has been appointed as Force Commander for MINURSO, the UN peacekeeping mission in the Sahara.

Inter Service Public Relation Directorate (ISPR) issued a press release in this regard on Saturday (March 18).

Major General Ahsan succeeds Major General Zia Ur Rehman of Pakistan who will complete his assignment at the end of March 2023.

According to ISPR, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has announced the appointment of Major General Md Fakhrul Ahsan of Bangladesh as force commander of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO).

Earlier, Ahsan also served previously in two peacekeeping missions including UN Operation in Somalia II and the UN Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUC).
